Ready - Set - Go!
School Orientation Program

What is Ready - Set - Go?

Going to school is exciting, but can be scary too!  While most children are eager to start grade primary, they don’t always know what to expect that first day.  Parents often have those same anxious feelings about their child’s first day at school.

“Ready - Set - Go!” is a program that will give your child a chance to get used to the school and classroom he or she will be attending in September.  The program is designed to help your child feel good about his or her triumphs (like printing her name and zipping his coat). Your child will spend time with a group of his/her classmates and will get to know the classroom and some of the school-day routines.  This school readiness program runs in two week sessions throughout the summer months at various local elementary schools.

Our goal is to help children feel good about themselves and about taking that step in to school in September. When a child is happy and feeling ready for school, it makes it easier for parents to make the adjustment too.

Ready - Set - Go! is also for parents and the community.  It gives parents an opportunity to get involved in their children’s education by getting to know the school early and keeping track of the children’s progress.

What can children do at Ready - Set - Go?

They can increase social skills by being with their classmates in the school setting.

They can improve fine motor skills by doing things like: using scissors, buttoning or zipping coats, tying shoes, printing letters, drawing, and painting.

They will learn the routines of the school and of their grade primary classroom.

They will learn where to put their personal belongings, like coats, lunch, and books.

They will learn to sit quietly, to raise their hand to ask or answer questions, to line up, and to work as part of a group.

They will take part in enjoyable activities all designed to help them feel good about themselves and about starting school.
