Parents’ Place Mission Statement

The mission of Parents’ Place is to strengthen and empower families in a nurturing environment, by promoting their physical, mental, and spiritual well being without discrimination.

Our Goals

To provide opportunities for optimal growth of children and their families, in the town of Yarmouth and surrounding areas, by working with families to strengthen bonds, reduce risk factors, and deliver services to meet the needs of children.
To build on community strengths by establishing and delivering services to meet the developmental needs of children and their families by introducing new services to the community and/or enhancing services already available.
To meet the challenging needs of the community, strengthen families, enhance bonds, influence the determinants of health, promote resilience, improve parent-child relationships, and develop ongoing support systems and resources.
Continue to expand and sustain programming by securing additional funding and developing new partnerships.

Our History

In 1993, a group of interested individuals and agencies worked together to apply to the government of Canada for funding to open a family resource center in Yarmouth. The proposal was accepted and together with Digby and Annapolis, the Southwest Nova Resource Centres were born. Parents’ Place later established itself apart from the other centers and became Parents’ Place Yarmouth Family Resource Center.
In 1998, funding was received to purchase the house Parents’ Place now calls home. We have completed extensive renovations to make the center more warm and cozy.

Parents’ Place is a nonprofit, charitable organization run by a volunteer board of representatives from various community agencies, interested individuals, and center participants.
